The Bears are riding a two-game win streak with crushing victories over Santa Clara University and Fresno State University to end the preseason. They will look to carry this momentum into the first two games of the regular season: tonight vs. Stanford and tomorrow at home vs. USC at 7:30PM.
As usual, the Bears have high expectations heading into the regular season. With an array of crucial roster additions, highlighted by the surprising return of last year’s Captain, JP McNicholas (SSr.), the Bears are one of the favorites to win the PAC8 Division this year.
McNicholas recently made the decision to come back to the Bears while he finishes up his degree in mechanical engineering at UC Berkeley. He currently sits at #2 on Cal Ice Hockey’s all-time goals, assists, and points records, which are all currently held by Sean Haq. With over 120 Career Goals and 100 Career Assists in a Cal Jersey, McNicholas will look to break Haq’s five-year-old records. As one of the most skillful players to ever dawn a Cal jersey, McNicholas hopes to add a Division Title to his list of achievements. He will be wearing #17 this year alongside an abundance of young talent including #19 Nic Kawasaki (Fr.), #20 Bryce Morisako (Fr.), #25 Theo Haboucha (Fr.) and #28 Jeff Leong (Fr.).
